Kelsey Shaw

Job: Farm Ownership     Area: Otago/Southland

Kelsey is currently in Year 12 at Columba College, and plans to work her way up to Farm Ownership after completely University.

NZ Young Farmers Involvement:
Over the past 3 years Kelsey has had a wide range of involvement in the NZ Young Farmers programmes. She is the current Co-Chairperson of the Columba College TeenAg Club, has competed in Otago/Southland Regional Finals for the last 2 years, and was invited to Grand Final in Auckland for 2013. She has attended 2 Get Ahead Career Experience Days in Mosgiel and Gore, and participated in the In2 the Field Mentor Programme, completing an AI placement with CRV Ambreed's Sue Duffy.

"My involvement in these events have opened my eyes to what careers are out there… it’s not just farming, there are a lot of other interesting careers available in Agriculture.’

The Plan:
To attend Lincoln University in 2015 (after completing NCEA Level 3) and study either Agricultural Commerce or Agricultural Science. Then, travel the world exploring different farming enterprises.

Influence's/Role Models:
Kelsey says that her Dad is her biggest influence and role model, as he’s always been really into farming and has encouraged her a lot. He’s a director with Silver Fern Farms, so understands that on-farm roles aren’t the only roles available in NZ Agriculture.
