The Ag Industry

The agricultural industry employs an estimated 11.4% of the New Zealand workforce.

Around 66,000 people are employed on sheep, beef and dairy farms; not to mention all the other people employed in other rural careers. We're talking everything from laboratory workers to rural bankers and large animal vets to researchers.

While sometimes it may seem we're a country of sheep, over the past 15 years, growth has been significant in the dairy sector, which is considered to be more profitable than other land-use options.
